Program Information
The duration of General Visiting Student program is mostly one semester or one academic year. Applicants can choose to study Chinese or take credit courses.
Chinese language education courses: Peking University provides a variety of Chinese language teaching resources. Students can find Chinese courses suitable for their own level at Peking University and receive comprehensive training in Chinese language listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Colorful credit courses: Peking University has the most complete discipline education in China, faculty with excellent quality and teaching resources. It has six faculties, namely Humanities, Social Sciences, Economics and Management, Science, Information Technology and Engineering, as well as Health Science, containing more than 130 undergraduate majors and more than 1700 courses. Students at Peking University can study many inter-disciplinary courses. Peking University has also launched the "PKU Global Open Courses" to further share quality course resources with overseas students from all over the world, allowing students to see China and learn about the world at Peking University.

Non-Chinese citizens, healthy and holding valid foreign passport.
Chinese language courses: Having completed at least one year of undergraduate study at their home university. There is no basic requirement of Chinese language.
Credit courses: Having completed at least one year of undergraduate study at their home university. Students who take Chinese-taught courses must hold the new version of HSK 6 certificate (of above 180 points).
Fee
Application Fee: RMB 400. The following payment methods are accepted: cash, Union pay card swipe payment, online payment;
*Other currencies and traveler’s cheques are not accepted; The application fee is non-refundable; Applicants who do not complete application fee payment will not be accepted.
Tuition Fee:
Chinese course: 18,000 RMB/semester
Credit course: 24,000 RMB/semester
* Applicants may also apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship from Chinese embassies or International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship from the Center for Language Education and Cooperation.
Application Procedures
1. Online application
(1) Fill in the application information
Log in to the Peking university students online application system (http://www.studyatpku.com), fill out the application form. The application route is: application - Non-degree students - General visiting students, or search for the admission code: GVS3.
* Students studying Chinese please select “School of Chinese as a Second Language” when filling out the application. Students studying credit courses should select “Other Departments/Schools”.
Upload the required application materials mentioned below onto your online application system.
* Applicants with incomplete application materials will not be processed.
2. Deliver physical application materials
Please pay attention to your online application system notice. After been pre-admitted, please print the online application form, sign it by hand and attach a photo. Please deliver it together with other application materials to the International Students Division of Peking University. Application materials will not be returned.
Schedule
Fall Semester (usually from September to the next January): Application is open from March 1 to April 30 each year. Fall semester usually starts on September.
Spring Semester (usually from late February to June) : Application is open from November 1 to November 30 each year. Spring semester usually starts on February in the following year.
* The specific time of enrollment is subject to the Admission Notice, and the semester time is subject to the school calendar of that year.
* Student applying for Chinese Government Scholarship Bilateral Program (Type A) needs to apply between December 1 to February 15.
Medical Insurance
China’s Ministry of Education has stipulated that international students studying in China must buy medical insurance in China.
Students can purchase medical insurance at the registration site on the day of registration.
* For students who do not purchase health insurance, the university will not proceed with registration.
Accommodation and Catering
There are different types of housing facilities for international students at PKU. For housing information, you can visit http://pkugv.pku.edu.cn. For specific inquires please contact (86-10)-62752288. Self-funded students may find their own accommodation on and off campus.
Students will receive a Peking University campus card (ID card) upon registration and may use the card in on-campus dining halls, library and other facilities.
Visa
Students admitted to PKU may apply for a visa at the Chinese Embassy/Consulate in their respective country with the letter of admission and JW202 form (for one-year study). International students who intend to study in China for over 6 months are required to obtain ‘X1’ Visa, which is only valid for 30 days after your arrival in China. Within 30 days of entry, students must apply for a residence permit at the International Students Division in order to obtain a legal status in China. Students who intend to study at PKU for less than 6 months should apply for ‘X2’ visa.
