Peking University was founded during the Reform Movement of 1898. Originally named the Imperial University of Peking, it was China's first national comprehensive university and also the highest administrative organ for education in China at that time. Its establishment marked the beginning of the state's sponsorship of higher education in China and thus initiated the modern educational system in the country. Since its founding, Peking University has enjoyed a lofty reputation and can be described as "inheriting the tradition of the Imperial Academy in ancient times and establishing the foundation of modern universities".
Peking University is currently one of the universities with the most comprehensive range of disciplines in China. It has six faculties, Humanities, Social Sciences, Economics and Management, Sciences, Information and Engineering, and Medical Science. There are a total of 11 disciplinary categories, 49 undergraduate major categories, and 137 undergraduate majors. The university adheres to regarding talent cultivation as its core mission and makes great efforts to enable students to have the best learning and growth experiences.
The program without written examination refers to the admission path for applicants with international standardized test scores that meet the requirements to enter the secondary examination assessment of Peking University undergraduate programs for international students. It aims to broaden the diverse admission channels, attract more high-quality international students to study at Peking University, and cultivate innovative and leading talents with the essence of Peking University, sense of Chinese culture, and international perspective for the whole world.
The study duration for undergraduate international students is between 4 to 6 years. Those who complete the requirements in the training program and pass the thesis defense can obtain the graduation certificate. Those who meet the requirements for the bachelor's degree will be awarded a bachelor's degree.
I. Application Prerequisites
1. In principle, applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 25 (calculated from 1 September 2007), physically and mentally fit, have graduated from high school or above, be of good character, meet the relevant provisions of the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China, be a non-Chinese citizen holding a valid foreign passport, be friendly to China and have no criminal record.
2. According to the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China and the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China [Teaching Foreign Affairs Letter [2020] No. 12], if both or one of the parents are Chinese citizens and settled in a foreign country, and the applicant has foreign nationality at birth, he/she does not have Chinese nationality. As international student applicants, they must hold a valid foreign passport or documentary proof of nationality before April 30, 2021 and have a record of actual residence in a foreign country for at least 2 years from April 30, 2021 to April 30, 2025 (actual residence in a foreign country for 9 months within a year can be counted as one year, based on entry and exit stamps).
3. According to the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, residents of mainland China (Mainland), Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Macao Special Administrative Region and Taiwan, who apply as international students after emigrating and acquiring foreign nationality, must hold a valid foreign passport or documentary proof of nationality before 30 April 2021 and have a certificate of having cancelled their Chinese nationality, and have at least 2 years of actual residence in a foreign country from 30 April 2021 to 30 April 2025 (9 months of actual residence in a foreign country within a year can be counted as one year, based on entry and exit stamps).
Note: Whether an applicant with foreign nationality also has the nationality of the People's Republic of China or not shall be subject to the nationality determination conclusion of the exit and entry administration department of the Chinese public security organ. If an applicant has Chinese nationality during the application, admission process, or after enrollment, their application qualification, admission qualification, enrollment qualification, or student status will be cancelled.
4. Applicants must possess the required scores from one of the below mentioned internationally recognized university entrance examinations. SAT, IB, A-level or ACT. Score requirements are as follows:

II. Application Materials
1. The Peking University Application Form for International Students (downloaded and printed after online application), with a 2-inch passport-style photo (white background) attached.
2. Senior high school graduation diploma (students expected to graduate should provide an official letter stating the expected graduation date, and submit the graduation diploma after receiving it if admitted), must be the original documents or notarized copies in Chinese or English.
3. Results or predicted results of SAT/AP/IB/A-Level/ACT that meet the written exam exemption requirements.

7. One photocopy of passport. The validity period of the passport should be beyond December 1, 2025. If it does not meet the time limit requirement, please apply for passport renewal in advance. Applicants currently in China must also provide a copy of their valid residence permit in China.
8. Award certificates and relevant supporting documents (if any).
9. Birth certificate and documentation proving the nationality of both parents at the time of the applicant's birth, including certificates for permanent residence.
10. "Undergraduate Application Commitment Form for Foreign Students" (click to download), the PDF version of the commitment form must be filled out clearly and completely by the applicant and signed by hand, applications without the commitment form will not be accepted.
11. Applicants must upload a self-introduction video in the online application system (click to download the "Requirements of Recording and Uploading").
12. Any other supplementary materials required by Peking University.
Note: All application materials are required to be in Chinese or English. For documents in languages other than Chinese and English, notarized Chinese or English translations must be provided. Materials in other languages will not be accepted. Notarized documents must be in their original form. Copies of notarized documents will not be accepted.
III. Application Method
1.Online application. In 2025, there will be two rounds of application for undergraduate applicants without written examination. Applicants should register through the online application system of Peking University for international students (website http://www.studyatpku.com), select "Degree Students", choose "Written Test Exemption Application for Undergraduate Program ", fill in the application form and upload relevant documents within the time required for the corresponding batch.
Round 1: The online application system will be open from 00:00 on 15th November 2024 to 23:59 on 6th December 2024 (all above are Beijing time), based on the time when applicants first submit their information.
Round 2: The online application system will be open from00:00 on 1st January 2025 to 23:59 on 28th February 2025(all above are Beijing time), based on the time when applicants first submit their application.
2.Application fee payment. After submitting the online application, applicants must pay the application fee. Applications with unpaid application fees will not be processed.
3. Preliminary examination. In principle, applicants can check the result of the preliminary examination within 1-10 working days after submitting the application and having paid the application fee. Applicants can print the application form only after having passed the preliminary examination.
4.Physical material verification. Applicants are required to mail the physical application materials to the university as required. Hardcopies of the application materials are only accepted by postal delivery and not accepted by on-site submission. Applicants are required to send in all hardcopies of their application materials according to the respective round time:
Round 1:25th November 2024 to 31th December 2024.
Round 2: 17st February 2025 to 17th March 2025.(Peking University’s winter break is from January 13 to February 13, 2025. It is not recommended to send mail during this period.)
The date of posting is based on the postmark date of the local post office. To ensure timely delivery of materials, SF Express (顺丰) and EMS are recommended in mainland China. The postal address is mentioned in the contact information of the International Students Division.
Application materials will not be returned. Incomplete application documents will not be accepted.
5.Secondary examination. Peking University will organize experts to review the application materials, and only those who pass the review can take part in the secondary examination.
first round:Late December 2024; second round:late March 2025. Please refer to further notice regarding secondary examination for the specific time and arrangement.
6. Pre-admission.Admission will be granted only if the applicant has passed both the preliminary examination and the secondary examination. The name list for secondary examination and the results of admission can be found in the online application system. Peking University will still review the information and documents of applicants after admission. If any irregularities or falsifications are found, admission will be cancelled immediately.
7. Enrollment.The university will issue admission documents between June and July 2025 and student should arrive with the admission letter and other relevant documents for registration in September 2025. The specific time and arrangement are subject to the notice of registration.
IV. Violation Handling
The applicant must promise the authenticity of personal information, other application information, and submitted materials. Any cases of dishonesty, untruthfulness, violation of rules and regulations, favoritism or fraud will result in the cancellation of application, admission, or enrollment qualifications once verified; If relevant violation is discovered after enrollment, the applicant will be expelled from the university.

VI. Related Fees
1.Application fee.800 RMB, payable online when submitting the online application. The application fee is non-refundable.
2.Tuition fee. Science and Engineering: RMB 30,000 per academic year; Humanities and Social Sciences: RMB 26,000 per academic year.
Tuition fees can only be paid in RMB cash, by UnionPay card or online. Foreign currencies and other payment methods such as travelers’ cheques will not be accepted.
VII. Scholarships for International Students
1. Chinese Government Scholarship
In principle, applicants need to pass the assessments organized by the university and relevant departments.
For the Bilateral Program (Type A): Applicants must first apply for any undergraduate program for international students at Peking University. After passing the preliminary eligibility examination, students can download the certificate and apply to Chinese embassies abroad. Applicants need to register in the "Information System for Chinese Government Scholarship Students" (https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn) and fill in the "Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship", select the "Type A" category, and set Peking University as the first-choice institution. After the consultation of China Scholarship Council with the university, the university will decide the proposed admission candidates based on the assessment results of the applicants.

For the "Silk Road" Scholarship Program (Type B): The university will recommend candidates to the China Scholarship Council for evaluation on a merit basis based on the admission results and the requirements of the program,
2. Peking University Scholarship for International Students, Beijing Government Scholarship for International Students
The university will assess and award based on the admission results. Please pay close attention to the email notifications in a timely manner. The "Beijing Scholarship for International Students" covers partial tuition fees. The "Peking University Scholarship for International Students" covers tuition fees, living expenses, and medical insurance.
All students with scholarships are required to participate in the annual review.
VIII. Medical Insurance
Students are required to purchase the Comprehensive Insurance Plan for International Students online before or on the day of registration. Students who do not have valid medical insurance are not allowed to register.
IX. Accommodation
Except for students with Chinese Government Scholarship, other students are required to arrange their own accommodation during their study period.

Students who live off-campus must go to the local public security authorities to register for accommodation within 24 hours after moving in.
X. Visa
Students must apply for an X1 visa to enter China with their Letter of Admission and the Application Form for Study Visa in China (Form JW201/202) at the Chinese Embassy/Consulate in their respective country. Within 30 days of entry into China, the X1 visa must be converted into a Residence Permit for study purposes.

XII. Other Matters
1. Applicants should pay timely attention to the relevant documents and notices issued and sent by the university. All consequences caused by personal reasons such as applicant negligence shall be borne by the applicant himself/herself.
2. If the higher authorities introduce new enrollment policies in the current year, the university will make corresponding adjustments and announcements. For matters not covered, relevant policies of the higher authorities and the university shall be implemented.
